Scribbly Gum is famously home to the unsolved mystery of the Munro Baby. When Sophie moves to the island, she soon learns that everyone here has a secret.

As Alice tries to reconstruct what she’s forgotten about the past decade, she also hopes to reconstruct the life she remembers. Ultimately, she’ll have to decide whether she really wants her old life back.

The Book Girls Say…

This book provides an intimate look at life in the 2000s from the perspective of a woman who can’t remember the past decade. If you woke up with no memories of the past 10 years, what would surprise you? How have your relationships changed? Would you have any regrets? Like Liane Moriarty’s other books, this one will have you laughing, but it will also really make you think.

The Book Girls Say…

Readers say that this book displays Moriarty’s signature wit and knack for character development, but some find that the dramatic payoff isn’t as big as in some of her other titles.

Nine Perfect Strangers book cover

Book Summary

Nine people attend a luxurious and remote health retreat for ten days of meditation and mindfulness. Each has their own reasons for being there – some want to lose weight, and others are looking to reboot their lives, but some can’t even admit their motives.

Frances, a formerly best-selling romance writer, has come to Tranquillum House hoping to heal both a bad back and broken heart. She is interested in getting to know all her fellow guests, but it’s the owner is the one that intregues her the most.

Before long, however, Frances is asking whether she should plunge headfirst into everything this retreat has to offer… or whether she should run while she still can?

The Book Girls Say…

This novel was adapted into a seven-episode Hulu TV series back in 2021. Staring Nicole Kidman and Melissa McCarthy, among others, fans have been hoping for a second series of this wildly popular adaptation ever since the season 1 cliffhanger. In April of 2024, US Weekly reported that Season 2 is finally in the works, though the full cast has yet to be revealed.

Although the first season was filmed in Byron Bay, Australia, the TV series presents the Tranquillum House as being set in California rather than in Australia. It’s reported that the second season will be set in the Swiss Alps.

Apples Never Fall Book Cover

Book Summary

The Delaney siblings grew up at their family’s famous tennis academy, but as adults, they’ve moved on from the game and are just as successful off the court. Their parents, Stan and Joy, sold the academy to begin retirement, so life should be good…

When Joy goes missing, two of their children suspect their father is involved while the other two believe he is innocent. As family secrets are unraveled, which side will you believe?

The Book Girls Say…

Apples Never Fall is the latest Moriarty book to be adapted into a limited TV series, which is now streaming on Peacock.

Although the book is set in Australia and the series was filmed down under, the TV series presents the Delaney family as living in West Palm Beach, Florida. The producers say they made this decision because West Palm Beach is home to so much competitive tennis training in the US.

Liane Moriarty’s New Book: 2024

A few months after the flight, one passenger dies exactly as predicted. Then soon after, two more. Now even those who originally viewed their encounter with “The Death Lady” as an entertaining story to share at cocktail parties are paying close attention.

The Book Girls Say…

After asking ourselves, “Would we want to know how much time we have left?” while reading Nikki Erlick’s The Measure, we are totally intrigued by the question posed by Liane Moriarty in this new novel – “If you knew you had a certain amount of time left, would you do things differently?”

About Liane Moriarty

photo of Liane Moriarty from inside back over of her book

Liane Moriarty is an Australian author who started writing as a child. Her father commissioned her first novel for $1, which turned into a three-volume epic called ‘The Mystery of Dead Man’s Island.’ However, her path to being a best-selling author wasn’t straight. After getting a business degree, she worked in advertising and marketing and started The Little Ad Agency.

While working as a freelance copywriter, she also wrote short stories in her free time, but didn’t ever expect to have her own novel until her younger sister had a YA novel published. This inspired Liane to enroll in a Masters program in Sydney, and through that program, she wrote Three Wishes. The book went on to be published around the world.

Her fifth novel, The Husband’s Secret, was her first NY Times #1 Bestseller. This helped her sixth novel, Big Little Lies, debut in the #1 spot, making Liane Moriarty the first Australian author to debut in the top spot in the US.

Moriarty has sold over 20 million copies of her books worldwide, and her novels have been translated into forty languages. Most of her books have now been adapted for the screen, often with the involvement of fellow Australian Nicole Kidman.
