New Christmas Books for 2025
Grace & Henry’s Holiday Movie Marathon
Book Summary
At the beginning of the year, both Grace and Henry lost their spouses. As their first holiday without their significant others approaches, their mothers come up with a matchmaking scheme, despite neither Grace nor Henry feeling ready to date again. But no one understands what they’re going through better than each other, so a friendship is born.
Henry and his late wife used to enjoy Christmas movie marathons each year, so this year, Grace has offered to watch a few with him despite her overall aversion. Sometimes her young kids even join them, bedtimes permitting.
One movie at a time, Grace and Henry share their grief, but also begin to see life beyond the sadness. As their friendship grows closer, other romantic possibilities leave them more uncertain than ever.
Consider This Before Reading
Readers say this one is a mix of hope and heartbreak, but it might be difficult to read if you’ve lost someone recently or if the holidays are already a difficult time of year due to a past loss.
On a different note, many praise the novel’s strong sense of place and say that Norman makes Baltimore almost another character in the story.
Will You Stay Another Day?
Book Summary
Lili’s dear friend, Em, passed away last Christmas. As the days get cooler and the holiday season approaches, she sends a knock-knock joke to Em’s old phone number. Lili doesn’t expect a response, so when she gets one from a stranger, she impulsively suggests meeting.
Dylan, the handsome stranger, is also missing someone this season. As he spends more time with Lili, they realize that life can’t focus solely on what you’ve lost; you also have to value the new things you have found.
Thoughts About This Book
This would be a great pick if you’re looking for something with more individual character development and fewer romance scenes. It would be ideal as a holiday book club pick because it begins in the late fall and follows the characters as Christmas approaches, giving you more to discuss than a traditional Christmas novel set over a shorter time period. One great side topic for discussion would be the inclusion of the Japanese tradition of showing respect to non-living things.
While this book is uplifting overall, it also explores how the lead characters learn to work through grief and move forward in life. If you’ve had a recent loss, it may hit close to home at times. One reviewer says it’s full of laughter, tears, love, warmth, and hope.

About the Author
Debbie Macomber is widely considered the “Queen of Christmas” because of her prolific backlist of highly-rated holiday novels, including many that have been adapted into Hallmark movies.
Last Stop on the Winter Wonderland Express

The singles on the train, including Aubrey, quickly bond and name themselves the “Unlucky in Love Travel Club”. But as the train gets closer to the final stop in Lapland, where they’ll stay in igloos under the Northern Lights, Aubrey’s feelings for Jasper, a journalist, are growing. Can they graduate from the Unlucky in Love Club together?
Why This is a Great Pick
As Melissa researched this book to write the book summary, she found herself smiling and downloading it to her Kindle right away. It sounds like the perfect escape to dreamy Christmas locations, set amid a great story with eccentric side characters.
Book Summary
Single mom Holly has always loved the Christmas season. But this year she’s just not feeling it. There’s a big upcoming wedding in her ex’s family. While her daughter, Lydia, is thrilled to be a flower girl, Holly is dreading the whole thing. It doesn’t help that she lied to everyone about having a new boyfriend, and now they’re expecting him to be there as her plus-one.
Ryan thought he’d be spending Christmas on his own terms this year, but somehow he agreed to look after his niece while her mom is away. Now he’s back in Shelter Springs, with his estranged father, just down the road.
Just when he thinks there’s no place he’d rather be, he meets Holly. They make a deal. He’ll be her fake date for the wedding if she helps him give Audrey a Christmas filled with all the traditions.
Thoughts On This Book
RaeAnne Thayne has set some of her past novels in the fictional town of Shelter Springs, Idaho, including her 2023 and 2024 Christmas novels, Christmas at Shelter Inn and The December Market. While these books are marketed as numbers 1 and 2 in the Shelter Springs series, we can’t find anywhere that lists Snow Kissed as part of that series (although we expect that might change).
Nevertheless, readers say that there are some cameos from past characters. So while this can read as a standalone, if you enjoy the setting, be sure to check out the other Shelter Springs-set holiday titles.

Jenny Bayliss always manages to write lovely stories that find a balance between romance and personal growth.

Thoughts On This Book
The magical realism element of this book sounds perfect for fans of Christina Lauren’s In a Holidaze, so it’s at the top of our holiday TBR!
Note that there is also a 2017 Hallmark movie with the same title, and which also features a big-city doctor returning home for the holidays, but the plots of the movie and the book are otherwise unrelated. This Christmas novel is a brand-new, unique story.
Kristine Winters is a pen name for author Karma Brown, who wrote Recipe for a Perfect Wife, which we’ve previously featured on several book lists, including this one.
Holly and Nick Hate Christmas
Book Summary
Despite being named Holly and born on Christmas, she hates the holiday because she was relentlessly teased about it as a child, and her birthday was always overlooked. This year is especially bad because she was also just fired instead of getting the promotion she was expecting, and is single as she approaches her 30th birthday.
Her older brother has brought a friend, Nick, home for the holidays. He’s also a Christmas hater, so when Holly finds out that Nick is supposed to be her pity date, she decides to go all in on Christmas to prove a point.
In between trying to prove a point, Holly and her siblings try to figure out why their parents insisted that all the siblings be home for the holidays this year.
What to Know Before Reading
This novel was released by a Christian publisher and has additional Christian themes beyond Christmas traditions in the second half of the book, in particular. Though many find this hits the right balance for them, other readers are split on whether there is too much or too little focus on the characters’ faith.

Thoughts On This Book
This sounds like the plot of every Hallmark Christmas movie, and we’re here for it. But keep in mind that where Hallmark movies usually end with just a kiss, this book does have some steamier scenes.
Book Summary
Some people are Christmas people. Jill is not! She had her heart broken on Christmas three years ago, then she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her screenwriting dreams and didn’t look back. She hasn’t been back to her suburban Illinois hometown since then. Until now…
After a very hazy night back home, Jill wakes up to a picture-perfect movie version of her town. She eventually realizes that she’s stuck in a “Heartfelt” Christmas movie, starring real people from her life, including her family, her high school crush, and her ex.
The only way Jill will be able to escape this movie reality is to complete the plot. But everyone knows that Christmas movies always include a holiday romance. So, Jill will have to act it out while her ex watches.
Our Thoughts On This Book
The plot of this story reminds us of many of the books we found for the “Characters Becoming Part of the Story” prompt in our Book Lover’s Reading Challenge. While Jill is a screenwriter rather than a book author, the premise of her having to write her way out sounds equally perfect for book lovers and fans of holiday romance movies.
